New Passages Behavioral Health and Rehabilitation Services has grown significantly in recent years, now serving over 7,000 people with disabilities in over 60 program sites across 14 Michigan counties. With corporate offices in Pontiac, the organization reaches out to provide services for behavioral health wherever they are needed. In the rapidly changing field of health care, great flexibility is required to keep a commitment to quality and excellence for the benefit of its consumers.
This writer has been employed with the agency over the past year. My job as a Rehabilitation Assistant has allowed me to give of myself in ways I would have never actualized and experienced had I not gotten involved. Moreover, working with young people who are my peers in age but whose autism or spinal bifida makes their lives very different from my own, has enhanced my own life, my own self-perception in ways I will value forever. It is a privilege to know these friends of mine who participate in the Livingston County program.
