Habitat for Humanity is known for its housing construction efforts worldwide. The Detroit affiliate works with its communities through volunteer labor and local financial support. Volunteering with Habitat is a great way for individuals and faith groups to begin extending themselves to their neighbors. On "Faith in Action" workdays, every third Saturday of the month, about 80 volunteers come together for construction projects. Both skilled and unskilled workers are welcome and training is provided on site.

Target Groups of Ministry: Communities of the city of Detroit most in need of decent, affordable housing

Current Needs: Constructio day volunteers — every THIRD SATURDAY meet at 4178 Lakepointe Street at 8:00 a.m. for volunteer orientation. Work day ends at 4:00 p.m. Ages 18 and up welcome (must be accompanied by adult if ages 16-17). Professional workers are especially welcome. Volunteers are encouraged but not required to bring their own hammer and personal protective gear like work gloves and goggles. Other tools that can be of use (but are not required of volunteers) are a utility knife, tape measure, chalk line, utility bar, cordless drill, cat's paw nail puller, sanding block, extension poles, tapered two-inch brush, nail guns and screw guns. All tools should be clearly labeled with your name. Habitat for Humanity Detroit also looks for volunteers in areas other than construction (e.g., planning and logistics, hospitality, devotionals and house blessings). Donations of money and materials are welcome. See www.habitatdetroit.org for more info.

Most Helpful Attitude from Volunteer: The desire to put faith into action and to bring beliefs into tangible expression.
