Target Group(s) of Ministry: Children and families of the Brightmoor community

Current Needs: Tutors for the 2007-2008 school year; Monday, Tuesday or Thursday nights — training begins in September. Mentors who commit to meet weekly with one or two students. People to help in daytime with early education at City Mission Academy, grades K-5 — basic subjects like reading. Work activities every second and fourth Saturday. Leaders for the summer "Backyard Bible Club."

Most Helpful Attitude from Volunteer: Patience and willingness to serve and spend time with the youth who are often 12 to 18 months behind in school, and with their families, who often do not have any strong education background.

Future: Building of a new City Mission Academy behind the current building; fundraising in August 2007. Continuation of programs with new volunteer help — forming high-output leaders in the community.

Events: Seventh Annual Fundraising Gala at The Diamond Center at Rock Financial Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave., Novi MI, Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 6:00 p.m.

Prayer: That the students now would stay involved at City Mission and be free of negative influences like drugs and gangs.
