Target Group(s) of Ministry: Youth, community

Current Needs: Specialized teachers for Hutchins After-School Program (e.g., art, music, photography, etc.). Teachers experienced in the arts for the Breakthrough Enrichment Program. Many other volunteer opportunities — see below.

Future: Specialty camps for third through sixth graders, Summer 2007

Prayer: For the programs of CDC; for the staff and their families; for the housing and economic development ministry; for the Board of Directors; for the families in the community — their life situations and that they would come to know Christ.

CDC Current Needs Summer 2007

Workforce Training:
* Mentors with work experience needed
* 22 years old & above
* Will build relationships with teenagers enrolled in our workforce training program
* Estimated time given: about 2 hours each month

Day Camp Helpers
Each year we host a summer day camp for children in our neighborhood. This year, we will have 120 kids in attendance. We need volunteers who are willing to commit time throughout the camp or just at certain portions. Volunteers need to:
* Work well with children
* Organizational skills
* Team player
* Be flexible
* Helpful

Back to School Extravaganza
We need people to help out at our Back to School Store on August 25 as well as donate the following items:
* Pencils
* Pencil sharpeners
* Pens
* Scissors
* Glue sticks & glue bottles
* Erasers
* Rules
* Crayons
* Folders
* Lined paper
* Notebooks
* Backpacks!!!!!!

Boys to Men Mentoring
* African-American men to mentor 8th graders
* One-year commitment
* Will receive 6-week training session
* Meet with mentee once a month
* Call mentee every week for a check-up

Breakthrough Enrichment Program (Elem.)
* Grades: K-5, 90 children attend
* Meets on Tuesday evenings, 6-8 p.m.
* Metropolitan United Methodist Church
Need: at least 30 volunteers

Middle School Club
* Grades: 6-8, 30 children attend
* Meets on Thursday evenings, 6-8 p.m.
Need: 10 volunteers

Hutchins After-School Program
* Completely volunteer based
* Meets on Mondays & Wednesdays
* Specific skill-set needed (ex: art, dance, choir, etc.)
Need: Volunteers with a specific skill set willing to teach a
class

Youth Club
* Meets bi-monthly on Fridays, 7 p.m.
* Must enjoy working with teenagers
* Must sbe consistent, reliable, & enthusiastic
* Can lead teens in group activities
Need: 5 volunteers

Building Futures on a Solid Foundation   

Workforce Training
* Mentors with work experience needed
* 22 years old and above
* Will build relationships with teenagers enrolled in our workforce training program
* Estimated time given: about 2 hours each

Need: 15 volunteers

High School Tutoring:
* Meets on Tues., Wed., & Thursdays
* Location: CDC Office, 4:30-6:30 p.m.
* Qualifications: 60 undergrad credit hours
Need: 5 volunteers each day (10 total)

Need: 35 African-American men
