- A Shepherd and Lover of Souls
James Jude Fisher
Bishop of the Cathedral of the Holy SpiritThis week, we lost a dear friend, Bishop Jim Fisher. Theresa and I will be heading out on Sunday to Cleveland for the funeral of this good Shepherd and lover of souls. Bishop Jim has been battling with cancer for a number of months, and died on Wednesday March 5, 2008. Our hearts and prayers go out to Judy, his wife, his children and his church family, Community of the Holy Spirit in Ohio.
Jim's Ministry was an interesting mix of Eastern Orthodoxy, Western Traditions, Evangelical Convictions, and Pentecostal Fervor. He carried a particular ministry to the brokenhearted and reached out and restored many to faith and ministry. Everyone knew of Bishop James' tender heart, hospitality and ability in the culinary arts. You couldn't get around Jim and Judy without being fed both spiritually and physically with nourishing and good provisions.
Jim was also a gifted musician and carried the joy of the Lord whereever he went. Although I have known and respected Jim for over a decade and a half, it’s in the last few years that we have had quality time together both face-to-face and over the phone. During that time I came to respect highly his intellect and wisdom. Bishop Jim, in addition to being a lover of souls, a shepherd who deeply cared for his flock, was also a gifted theologian. He was also a exceptional liturgist, with good range for both high and low church in the various settings where he ministered.
Bishop Jim was a family man with great love for his children, grandchildren and his coworker wife in God's kingdom, Judy. Please pray for Judy and the rest of the family, the church that will be adjusting to the loss of a wonderful man and minister.
