Jesus' feet anointed, St. John's College chapel, Cambridge

I can feel their indignation,
And their faces I elude,
I’m not here by invitation,
I’m a stranger who intrudes,
But I’ve come with special purpose,
I’m a woman with a plan,
I somehow know he’s going to die,
And they don’t understand,
My heart is filled with sorrow,
But His smile strengthens me,
His tender face amid the rest,
Is all I need to see,
So I take the alabaster flask,
A dowry of lost dreams,
And I pour the contents on his head,
Amid the reeling screams,
I drop the box, I’m overcome,
Their anger makes me want to run,
Forgive me Lord, what have I done?
What have I done?
He quickly rises to command the human storm to pause,
And silence falls upon the room as he defends my cause,
And mingled with his words that day,
Sweet fragrance filled the room,
For as he spoke of burial,
Our motives he exhumed,
And I shall not forget the day,
I prepared Him for the tomb.
