You Have a Chance to Give a Second Chance
Since 1993, New Creations’ TOP Program has been working with the formerly incarcerated to help them overcome some of the many obstacles they face after incarceration including:
* Little to no education
* Unemployment, with very few marketable skills or trades
* The negative stigma of being an ex-prisoner
* No income and very little clothing
* Broken or strained relationships with family members
* Very few, if any, healthy relationships
* Mental health and substance abuse problems
To see a video on it's founder Joe Williams:
Dear friends,
I'm in contact with many Detroit Area and Inner City Ministries. One that I have the highest regard for is New Creations Community Outreach founded by Joe Williams. I've attended their Annual Benefit Dinner down at Cobo Hall a number of times. It's been a great time of hearing the stories of changed lives as New Creations Ministry works with ex-offenders and also offers care to the children and the families of the incarcerated.
Their TOP Program – Transition of Prisoners has earned a national reputation for their effective efforts in working through the Church community to care for the released prisoners.
This year, with the current economic climate they will not be hosting a 500 person dinner at Cobo Hall. Instead, they are planning an "UnEvent" called “A Chance to Give, A Second Chance” consisting of a DVD about the organization, popcorn and printed materials. It's aim at exposing people in their own homes and churches, to the work they're doing and the needs they have.
They need some help spreading the word, so instead of asking people to host a table down at Cobo Hall, I'm looking for a few good men and women to help pass on the word about New Creations Community Outreach through this effort.
Take the challenge to serve as a New Creations Family Member. Help with the Word-Of-Mouth Campaign lending your support and your good name to this important work. To serve as a key supporter with me, here's what they are asking:
NEW CREATION’S “FAMILY MEMBER” RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Agree to support our 2009 campaign, “A Chance to Give a Second Chance”, by making a financial donation to our organization.
2. Attend a 90 minute orientation. Two dates and locations are available for your convenience:
4/21/09, Tuesday 6:00pm – 7:30pm - New Creations Community Outreach
40 Hague, Ste. 100 Detroit, MI 48202
or
4/23/09, Thursday 6:00pm – 7:30pm - Kupliean, Ormond & Magy
25800 Northwestern Hwy. Ste. 950 Southfield, MI 48075
3. Identify and update your e-mail contact list with individuals that may be interested in financially supporting our organization.
4. E-mail information to your contact lists, so that the community will be aware of our organization and the services that they provide.
5. Forward campaign information to friends and ask them to spread the word.
If you are willing to help in this effort, email or call me at 248-656-4864. Maybe, we could ride down to the 90 minute orientation meeting together where I'll introduce you to Joe Williams and others involved in the vital outreach at New Creations. Thanks, Richard Dalton
