Os Guinness is a writer and social critic living in McLean, Virginia. Born in China during World War II where his parents were medical missionaries, he is the great-great-great-grandson of Arthur Guinness, the famous Dublin brewer. He started his education at a boarding school in China, and remained there until 1951 when the communists forced most foreigners to leave. Since then he has lived mostly in England, Switzerland, and the United States. Educated in England, he did his undergraduate study at the University of London and postgraduate study at University of Oxford where he graduated with a D.Phil in the social sciences from Oriel College. He also studied with Francis Schaeffer at L'Abri.
